Memories of a Wonderful Nan

Created by Stacey 6 years ago
She was small in stature and superstitious, stubborn and a straight talker and in more recent months she showed that she was a real fighter too. Nan was very generous and always spoiling us. She would never eat a full meal but would always have room for a pudding. Nan was scared of thunder, often found sitting on the stairs during a thunderstorm, covering all mirrors, unplugging anything electrical and was often known to take her jewellery off too. She loved a trip to a seaside town and you knew the trip was good if the fish and chips were up to scratch. Her way of telling a funny story, she wouldn't be able to get to the end without laughing. Her stories about the war. She would describe them with such detail, like we were really there. Nan was always tutting, even at something good but especially when watching her favourite football team, Man Utd. Nan would always say that a good cup of tea was always better from a China cup. If you couldn't quite get the stain out of any piece of clothing, give it to Nan to "Nanny wash" it would come back in better condition, stain gone, ironed perfectly and smelling like Nan. She had a passion for many things and was very sociable, she loved going to play bingo (normally having 10 cards on the go at any one time). She played skittles every Thursday. Every Saturday and Sunday night her and Grandad would socialise at the Rainbow Hill Club. The vision of her putting on her lipstick in the living room mirror still so clear. Nan loved a good puzzle, a word search, a cream cake and a daytime soap opera or game show. Our lasting memory will be that together with our Grandad, they were a true pair, there was never one without the other and now they are reunited again and we all have peace of mind knowing that. No one could look after Nan as well as Grandad could. We will miss you forever Nanny Jean, thank you for a lifetime of memories that will carry us through.
